Research & Documentation

Spark AR

Exploring Spark AR for the very first time with a team member during my internship at Philips Singapore Design Team. Our research & documentation can hopefully help the team to venture into exciting ways to elevate their marketing or even incorporate it with healthcare products and spaces in the future.

Brief

Research on how to incorporate AR animations for the retro graphics on the tote bags for Lazada Super Brand Day. Brainstorm a few concept ideas of how the animation will look like using the retro graphics given.

Retro Steamer Concept storyboards

I came up with a couple of fun creative concept ideas on how to showcase the steamer.

Finalised concepts

After many iterations and feedbacks, we went with a very simple looking animation that ties with the retro look and feel of the graphics. As this was my very first time exploring Spark AR software, I only picked 2 final concept to work on which was the Phillips Shaver and Toothbrush.

Animation Frames

After designing the graphic animation frames, I had export the animation sprites and load them up into Spark AR software for test runs. This alone takes multiple retries and testing to get the perfect smooth animation as the more frames the smoother it is and lesser frames the choppier it looks.

Final Product

Ta dahh~!

Notes

This was one of my proudest projects during my 3 months internship at Philips Singapore. It was a struggle at first trying to digest and learn how to use the software within a short period of time. There where a lot of limitations like the quality of the animation depends on the quality of graphic you upload, the bigger the files size is the longer it takes to upload and run. There were many updates and bugs in the software and we had to work around it in order to produce the final product. Overall it was a very fun project to work on and it definitely Spark(see what I did there hehe) my creativity!
